Koganji Temple is a Buddhist Temple located in Sugamo Tokyo, just 6 stops from Shinjuku Train Station on the Yamanote temple. Kogangi is often referred to as the Healing Temple.

Kaganji Temple is popular with locals not just to come and pray at the alter but for healing of ailments and sickness. There is a small statue of the Jizo Bodhisattva which is said to have healing powers. Many people queue up for their chance to touch and clean the statue with the holy waters of the temple. It is said if you clean a certain part of the statue, it will heal the corresponding part of your body.

The best time to visit Koganji Temple is on the 4th, 14th and 24th of every month when a festival is held at the temple. This is a colourful festival with loads of food stalls setup around the grounds of the temple.

Koganji Temple is located around 10 minutes walk from Sugamo Train Station. You walk down a pedestrian shopping street which is lined with small stores that sell a range of Japanese food and snacks.

On the way from Sugamo Train Station, there is another beautiful temple called Edoro kujizoson Shinsho Temple which is worth visiting. Inside the grounds of Edoro kujizoson Shinsho Temple, just in front of the main temple building is a large statue of a Buddhist monk crossed legged.
