Orchard Road Singapore

Orchard Road Singapore is one of the main shopping and entertainment districts in Singapore. There are countless shopping plazas along both Orchard Road and Scotts Road with lots of world famous brand name stores. Orchard Road was named after the orchard plantations that were located along the road in the 1800’s. Development of Orchard Road did not begin until the 20th century.

If you love large shopping malls then you will love Orchard Road Singapore. The shopping malls are huge! Ion Orchard Shopping Mall for example is a huge complex with 5 levels underground. Some other shopping plazas along Orchard Road include Lucky Plaza, Forum The Shopping Mall, Orchard Central, Plaza Singapura, Wisma Atria, Paragon Shopping Centre, Takashimaya Department Store withing the Ngee Ann City Shoppng Mall, Far East Shopping Centre which is good for electronic stores, Pacific Plaza, and Wheelock Place which has a large Borders and Marks and Spencers on the corner of Orchard Road and Scotts Road. There are also a few other shopping malls just around the corner into Scotts Rd which include Royal Plaza on Scotts, DFS for some great duty free shopping and Far East Plaza just down from the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The shopping malls along Orchard Road are open everyday from 10am – 10pm so you have all day and night to shop. Also all the shopping malls are air-conditioned so nice and cool to get out of the Singapore heat.

Some of the brand name designer specialty stores you will find on Orchard Road and Scotts Road include Cartier, Dolce and Gabbana, Dior, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Georgio Armani and Emporio Armani.

Orchard Road is centrally located in Singapore with loads of hotels. There is an MRT subway railway station named Orchard MRT located directly below the ION Orchard Shopping Mall, right under the crossing of Orchard Road and Scotts Road.

The Thai Embassy is located along Orchard Road. The Thai King bought the land in the 1800’s. The land is now the most underdeveloped land along Orchard Road worth multi-millions of dollars.

Cinemas Orchard Road Singapore

There are a few large cinema complexes along Orchard Road showing the latest release Hollywood blockbuster movies as well as movies locally made in Singapore and from around the world.

Right on the corner of Orchard Road and Scotts Road is the Lido Shaw Theatres. Lido Shaw Theatres has 11 cinemas including Singapore’s first IMAX’s Digital Theatre System. They also have 3D cinemas. Cinema ticket prices are S$12. There is free Wi-Fi internet access at the Shaw House shopping complex.

Further down at 68 Orchard Road in the Plaza Singapura shopping mall is Golden Village Plaza Cinemas.

Singapore Visitor Centre

The Singapore Visitors Centre is located at the Junction of Cairnhill Road and Orchard Rd open daily from 9.30pm and 10.30pm. The Singapore Visitors centre offers tourist advice on activities in Singapore, hotel reservations, tour bookings and sale of tourist attraction tickets.

Orchard Towers is located on Orchard Road just across from the Hilton Hotel. During the day there are stores opening selling electronics, tailored suits and business shirts. The stores are open until 7pm. There are also over 15 bars in Orchard Towers. Some of the bars open at midday though the majority open around 6-7pm and are open until 3am during the week and 4am on weekends. Best not to let your husband visit Orchard Towers along as there are many ladies of the night hanging out in the bars.
