Hainanese chicken rice in Terminal 21 Bangkok
Located in the Pier 21 Food Court within Terminal 21 Shopping mall, there is a very good food stall selling Hainanese chicken rice. In Thai they call it Khao Man Gai but this stores title just says Hainanese chicken rice. It is store number 3, located on the far left of the food court when you walk in.
You can get a plate of Hainanese chicken rice with a bowl of the chicken broth for 32 Baht. That’s around A$1.40. The service is quite small but it was ok for a light lunch. You can get the larger Hainanese Chicken Rice Set which has more chicken for 100 Baht.
As well as the traditional boiled chicken, they also serve fried chicken on the same chicken rice. I got a mix of both, the boiled and fried chicken for 37 Baht. With a large pepsi and a small bottle of water, my lunch time meal came to 65 Baht (A$2.90). I love fried chicken but in this case, I actually preferred the boiked chicken. It was way more juicy and flavoursome. The fried chicken was a bit greasy, so the boiled chicken was tastier and felt healthier.
I have seen street carts around Sukhumvit selling Khao Man Gai for 50 Baht, so here at Pier 21 which has a strict hygiene protcol, is the best option for Hainanese Chicken Rice in Sukhumvit Bangkok. It is definitely the cheapest meal I’ve had in Bangkok.
Pier 21 is located on Level 5 of Terminal 21. The shopping mall is located right next to Asoke BTS Skytrain Station and the Sukhumvit MRT Station. In my opinion, Pier 21 is one of the best food courts in Bangkok. You can get very good, hygienic meals for between 30 Baht – 80 Baht. There are plenty of food optims like roasted duck, pad thai noodles, rice and curry, stewed pork leg and rice, biryani, papaya salad and loads of thai dessert.
