Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel Bangkok
The Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok is my hotel of choice in Bangkok. Not only am I a member of the Hyatt Gold passport and get exceptional service from all Hyatt hotels, the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bangkok is just in a perfect location, easy to get to all the places I like in Bangkok.
This was my 3rd stay at the Grand Hyatt Bangkok. This time I got upgraded to a monster suite. Very sweet! The lounge room was huge with a 6 person dining table and a huge bay window with a view out over the racecourse just down the road.
On the lower ground floor is the Spasso Italian Restaurant which serves up some great Italian food including very tasty pizza. There are a few other restaurants on this level though I have never eaten there. There is a set of stairs on the Lower Ground floor which takes you down to The Urban Kitchen which is the place to come for some great restaurants. I have eaten at 2 of the restaurants down there, Ginza Sushi Ichi (see Best Sushi in Bangkok) as well as the La Mien Xiao Long Bao Chinese Restaurant (see Best Shanghai Soup Dumplings in Bangkok).
Around 10.30pm, when Spasso finishes serving dinner, the bar area turns into a bit of a lively bar / meat market, pick up joint. Loads of expats come to Spasso late at night and pay 400 Baht for a Heineken beer, listen to live music (the band I saw was quite good) with loads of nice, friendly Thai girls there trying to score an expat boyfriend (well atleast boyfriend for the night!).
There are a few large shopping centres walking distance from the Grand Hyatt Bangkok. Just around the corner on Sukhumvit Road is the Amarin Plaza Shopping Mall. Diagonally across from the Grand Hyatt is the Central World shopping mall which is one of the largest shopping malls in Bangkok. If you go over here check out the Red Sky Bar on the 55th level of Centrara Grand Hotel which is located above the shopping mall. (check out Best Roof Top Bars in Bangkok).
The Siam Paragon Shopping Centre is only 1 block away from the Grand Hyatt and MBK Shopping Mall which is the largest shopping mall in Bangkok is just 2 large blocks away. It is best to get the Sky Train from Ratchadamri Station (walk out the Grand Hyatt and turn left and it is around 150m away, next to the St Regis Hotel, go 2 stops to the National Stadium Station which is close to MBK.
Right in front of the Amarin Plaza shopping mall is the entrance to the Chit Lom BTS Sky Train Station which has trains going directly to a number of stations worth visiting including the Victory Monument Station, Mo Chit BTS Station (for JJ Markets – Chatuchak Markets) and ofcourse Nana Station for Nana Entertainment Plaza is only 2 stops from Chit Lom station so much better option to get the sky train there and back then trying to get a taxi from the Grand Hyatt. I often have to wait 5 minutes or more before I can get a taxi out the front of the Grand Hyatt.
