I used to stay at Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok everytime I visited Bangkok, it was always my hotel of choice in Bangkok, until Hyatt Regency open. I had not stayed at Grand Hyatt since 2018 but I had the chance to stay again in December 2024 and it is still a great hotel!

Back in 2017, I got a very pleasant free upgrade to a very large suit which was very sweet! The lounge room was huge with a 6 person dining table and a huge bay window with a view out over the racecourse just down the road.

On the lower ground floor there used to be the famous Spasso Italian Restaurant which served up some great Italian food including very tasty pizza. After the dinner service the bar in Spasso became a very busy nightspot, with loads of tourists, expats and local ladies. But Spasso closed after the pandemic and has been replaced by a French resaurant which has a bar in the exact location that Spasso had. I did not see it late at night to see if was still a good nightlife destination.

There is a very good Italian Restaurant called Salvia. I had pizza there for lunch and it was very very good.

There is a set of stairs on the Lower Ground floor which takes you down to what used to be called The Urban Kitchen but is now just signed ‘Erawan’. Here you will find a handful of high end restaurants worth a visit. Read more about the restaurants downstairs in the Erawan mall.

There are a few large shopping centres walking distance from the Grand Hyatt Bangkok. Just around the corner on Sukhumvit Road is the Amarin Plaza Shopping Mall. Diagonally across from the Grand Hyatt is the Central World shopping mall which is one of the largest shopping malls in Bangkok. If you go over here check out the Red Sky Bar on the 55th level of Centrara Grand Hotel which is located above the shopping mall. (check out Best Roof Top Bars in Bangkok).

The Siam Paragon Shopping Centre is only 1 block away from the Grand Hyatt and MBK Shopping Mall which is the largest shopping mall in Bangkok is just 2 large blocks away. It is best to get the Sky Train from Ratchadamri Station (walk out the Grand Hyatt and turn left and it is around 150m away, next to the St Regis Hotel, go 2 stops to the National Stadium Station which is close to MBK.

Right in front of the Amarin Plaza shopping mall is the entrance to the Chit Lom BTS Sky Train Station which has trains going directly to a number of stations worth visiting including the Victory Monument Station, Mo Chit BTS Station (for JJ Markets – Chatuchak Markets) and ofcourse Nana Station for Nana Entertainment Plaza is only 2 stops from Chit Lom station so much better option to get the sky train there and back then trying to get a taxi from the Grand Hyatt. I often have to wait 5 minutes or more before I can get a taxi out the front of the Grand Hyatt.
