Catching the Ferry to Magnetic Island from Townsville

Magnetic Island is just 12 kilometres off the coast from Townsville. You can easily catch a ferry across to the island in 20 minutes. With ferries running regularly through the day, it is easy to do a half day trip, a full day trip or spend a number of nights over on the beautiful Magnetic Island.
There are 2 different ferry services running from Townsville to Magnetic Island. There is a passenger service that leaves from the Sealink BreakWater Terminal. There is also a vehicle ferry that you can take your car or motorbike across to Magnetic Island. This car ferry leaves from a ferry terminal directly opposite the Ross Creek from the passenger ferry terminal.
The Sealink Breakwater Terminal is located just outside the Townsville CBD City Centre. You can walk from the centre of town to the terminal in around 15 minutes. There is a 200 Bus which goes directly to the Magnetic Island Ferry terminal if you dont want to walk.
The car ferry across the Magnetic Island will cost $213 for a return trip if you book online via the Magnetic Island Ferry Website.
The passenger ferries run regularly (almost hourly) from 5.30am until 10.30pm at night. Check out the Sealink Ferry Website for the most up to date timetable and the lastest prices.
For prices as of December 2020, an Adult return ticket on the passenger ferry will cost $34 if you buy from the ferry terminal. A child ticket will cost $17. If you buy the tickets online via the Sealink website, the Adult ticket will only cost $30, so a saving of $4 per adult. There is no discount for the children tickets.
The ferry arrives into Nelly Bay Ferry Terminal on Magnetic Island, which is a quiet part of the island. There are buses that will take you the popular areas of the island or you an hire a care or bike to get around the island.
