Beautiful secluded resort – Captain Hook Resort Koh Kood Thailand
If you ignore the unusual name, Captain Hook Resort, you will discover an amazing secluded resort on the beautiful, remote, tropical island of Koh Kood in Thailand, close to the border of Cambodia.
Captain Hook Resort is part of a number of hotels on Koh Kood with the Peter Pan theme – others include Peter Pan Resort, Tinkerbell Privacy Resort, Neverland Beach Resort and Wendy Pool Resort.
After you get off the ferry at Koh Kood, you take a car transfer of around 20 minutes and stop at a boat pier in a river estuary. You get on a speed boat and take the final 5 minute ride down the river to the river mouth where it exits into the sea. This is where you get off the boat and enter the Captain Hook Resort.
You walk through the open air restaurant to reception and then they take you up the steps to the private rooms. I had a small pool villa which had a lovely plunge pool at the front with an amazing view over the sea, a great place to sit back and relax and watch the sunset.
The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. I had 2 large double mattresses sitting on a platform just a step up from the ground. There are no TVs in the room though there are so many activities to do during the day and loads of food at night time to keep you out of your room.
The bathrooms are open with views out over the plunge pool and out over the ocean. At breakfast the day after the first night, the staff asked me if I wanted my room cleaned. I said not to bother as had the extra bed with clean sheets to sleep in if I wanted on the 2nd night. I discovered at the end of the 2nd day that the bathroom floor was covered in leaves, seeds and berrys from the tree above. If you staying here and don’t want the sheets changed you can still ask them just to clean the bathroom to reduce the number of leaves on the floor. See the pic below of the mess on the 2nd morning.
I stayed with 4 other friends and we had booked in a package which included 2 nights accommodation, ferry transfer from the mainland (which we missed and ended up costing 500 baht more each to get the next ferry). The package includes a boat trip to Koh Rang for some snorkeling, a trip back up the river to see a small waterfall as well as a trip up the river at night time to see some fireflies. The package also included all food, breakfast, lunch, dinner, morning snack and afternoon snack. The food was unbelievable.
The first night we had an all you can eat seafood buffet with every type of seafood imaginable, large crabs, huge king prawns, fresh fish, scallops, squid and calamari.
Lunch next day was a Thai feast with loads of vegetables, some Thai stir fries and curry.
The 2nd night dinner was a Thai hotpot grill, again with all you can eat with loads of seafood and pork to cook on the grill top with lots of vegetables to cook in the hotpot. Again a large plate of crabs and some delicious fried squid which we ordered a few more plates full as it was so good.
Most of the staff do not speak English but there are always a few on duty who speak good English.
When I was checking out I got them to arrange a car transfer to another part of Koh Kood at the Siam Beach Resort where I stayed 2 more nights. Not only did they arrange the car transfer, they phoned ahead to the Siam Beach Resort and confirmed my reservation and made sure that my room would be ready for my arrival as I was getting there around 11.30am. All was well done, I arrived at Siam Beach Resort and they greeted me at the car and took me straight to my room. Great service.
You can book directly via the Captain Hook Resort or often Agoda have discounted room rates on their site.
