Bangkok Travel Dangers – Bag Snatching

While Bangkok is a relatively safe city to be in, in the last year or so, there has been a rise in the number of bag snatching that has occured in the Bangkok area.
Bag snatching is not common in Bangkok but it is defintely something to be aware of, especially female travelers, traveling alone. These bag snatches can occur anywhere in Bangkok, especially in the busy tourist areas like Sukhumvit, in particular off the side streets from the busy Sukhumvit Road.
The bag snatches that have been reported by foreign tourists reported the snatching happening late at night, with 2 males traveling up from behind them on a motorbike, with the man on the bag grabbing their handbag. Some of the female victims have been injured, as they tried to hold on to their hand bags as the bike tries to drive away, causing the women to fall and be dragged along the street.
Always be aware of your surroundings, and ensure your personal belongs are not an easy target that can be snatched off your shoulder. Hand bags hanging off your shoulder are an easy target for these men to grab as they are riding past.
Be safe everyone!
