12th March 2025 – Qantas doubles down on Rewards for Frequent Flyers
Qantas bring back their popular Double Status Credits or Qantas Points offer which launches today, just for 1 week, until 18th March 2025. This allows customers to get double status credits or points for any flight booked in the next 7 days on any Qantas operated flight across the airline’s entire regional, domestic, or international network, Read more on the Qantas News room.
9th March 2025 – Airports open again after Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ballina and Coffs Harbour airports have all re-opened after the passing of Tropical Cyclone on Saturday.
7th March 2025 – Brisbane airport suspends all flights in preparation for Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Friday morning, Brisbane Airport has suspended all flights in preparation for Tropical Cyclone Alfred hitting landfall, now expected early Saturday morning. Read more on Brisbane Airport’s website.
5th March 2025 – Airports close in preparation for Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Gold Coast Airport, Ballina Airport and Coffs Harbour airport closed on Wednesday afternoon 5th March 2025 due to the approaching High Level 2 Tropical Cyclone Alfred which is expected to hit landfall late Thursday evening / early Friday morning. Brisbane Airport and Sunshine Coast airports remain open though are expected to close on Thursday. Winds between 125 – 150Km/h are expected once the storm passes the coastline.
3rd March 2025 – Qantas flight experiences on-board emergency leaving Sydney
Qantas flight QF643 traveling from Sydney to Perth, returned to Sydney airport after an on-board emergency was declared. Qantas annouced the emergency was of a technical nature and apologised to the passengers. Read more on News.com.au.
2nd March 2025 – New Flight Route Gold Coast to Alice Springs – Airnorth
Airnorth have announced they will be flying from Gold Coast Airport to Alice Springs starting from 14th April 2025. Airnorth will use their E190 Embraer Jets. Prices start from $299 one way. Read more on the Airnorth website.

1st March 2025 – Virgin flights from Australia to Doha Qatar.
After the partner deal was signed between Virgin Australia and Qatar Airways was signed earlier this week, Virgin have announced on their website that flights to Doha (DOH) Qatar will start from June 2025. These flights from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane will be operated by Qatar Airways planes. Prices start from A$1925.

1st March 2025 – Upgrade to Qantas B737 aircraft.

Qantas have annouced they will undertake refurbishment of their fleet of Boeing B737s. 42 of their B737 aircraft will have both the economy and business class seats replaced and a further rollout of their Wi-Fi service.

1st March 2025 – Turkish Airlines goes daily at SYD
Turkish Airlines will begin daily flights from Sydney to Istanbul from January 2026. Read more on Sydney Airport news site.
1st March 2025 – New Direct Flight Between Cairns and Nadi Fiji
Fiji Airways will commence flights from Cairns International Airport to Nadi Fiji starting on 10 April 2025. Fiji Airways will operate this route on their Boeing B737 MAX 8 aircraft. There wil 3 flights per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Read more on the Cairns Airport website.
1st March 2025 – New Gold Coast – Darwin service
Gold Coast airport have announced that Jetstar will be flying between Gold Coast and Darwin airport starting 26 June 2025. Read more on the Gold Coast Airport website.
