Amimoto Japanese Restaurant Surfers Paradise

Amimoto Japanese Restaurant is a hidden gem restaurant located in an old 1970s style arcade at 24 Orchid Ave in the heart of Surfers Paradise Gold Coast. Amimoto serves up a great range of cheap and tasty, traditional Japanese food like sushi, sashimi, bento boxes and some delicious dishes like chicken teriyaki ($14), Deep fried chicken karage ($14), Prawn tempura ($16). Ramen soup ($9.50), Gyoza pork dumplings ($9.50), Unagi grilled eel ($22), Curry udon ($12), Chicken katsu ($15), Katsu don ($9.80).

The restaurant is a very casual dining restaurant, with some tables inside the restaurant and others lined up in the arcade, out the front of the restaurant. The decor is very basic with a few posters on the wall and some Japanese decorations along the counter. What the restaurant lacks in decor, they make up in tasty Japanese food at a reasonable price.

I walked past the restaurant around 6pm and it was packed full of Japanese tourists. I went back at 7pm and got a table and ordered up the chicken teriyaki which comes with a bowl of rice and miso soup. It took longer than I expected for the food to come out, probably around 20 minutes but it was delicious!

At the counter there is free self-service water and hot and cold barley tea. They also sell soft drinks but no alcohol, so no beer or sake with your meal unless you BYO.

The restaurant can be accessed either by Orchid Avenue or Surfers Paradise Boulevard. The restaurant is only 2 minutes walk from the Hilton Hotel Surfers Paradise. The restaurant is tucked away right in the middle of the arcade. There is no sign at the front of the arcade to alert you to their presence, but plenty of people seem to have found this restaurant and come back for the excellent Japanese food.
