Newton Food Centre Singapore
Newton Food Centre is the most famous food hawker centre in Singapore. Just 1 train station away from Orchard, Newton Food Centre is easy to get to and a must visit while visiting Singapore.
Originally called the Newton Food Circus, Newton Food Centre has been running since 1971. This open air food centre has over 40 stalls selling up a huge selection of Singaporean and Asian food. It has always been known for serving up fresh seafood but please be warned, the seafood is not cheap here.
An example of the seafood prices (2018 prices) are Tiger Prawns for S$8 per 100 grams. With 1 tiger prawn weighing 250g you are looking at S$20 per Tiger Prawn. The famous Singapore Chilli Crab goes for S$5 per 100 grams. With some of the crabs weighing in at 1kg or more, you are looking at around S$50 for this famous Singapore dish.
Luckily there are plenty of other stalls serving up some really cheap food. You can get a meal at Newton Circus for $4 – $5 per plate of food, so you can actually get a nice cheap meal here at Newton Food Centre.
One of my favourite snacks at Newton Food Centre is the BBQ chicken wings. There are plenty of stalls serving these delicious chicken wings, only costing $1.40 per chicken wing. Picture below is a plate of 3 chicken wings which only cost me S$4.20.
There are plenty of other stalls serving up cheap food and some of Singapore’s specialty food like oyster omelettes, Nasi Lemak, BBQ stingray, satay sticks, noodles soups and laksa. There are also a number of stalls serving up traditional Indian food.
Most of the dining tables are set in an open-air section in the middle of the food centre. There are some tables underneath a roofed section so if it is rainy you can still dine here.
This is definitely one of the best food hawker centres in Singapore. Put Newton Food Centre on your list of places to visit in Singapore!
Newton Food Centre is open for lunch and dinner. Open 7 days a week from 12pm – 2am. If you are looking for a late night feed in Singapore then head down to Newton Food Centre.
