Historical Pub – Macquarie Arms Hotel Windsor Sydney

The Macquarie Arms Hotel in Windsor, in Sydney’s outer west lays claim to being Australia’s oldest pub dating back to 1815. Located in the centre of Windsor which is located on the Hawkesbury River, at the foot of the Blue Mountains, around 1 hours drive from the Sydney CBD.

The history of the Macquarie Arms Hotel starts when Governor Lachlan Macquarie gave a large allotment of land to Mr Richard Fitzgerald – on the condition he build an Inn at least 2 stories high.

From the worn stone steps at the front and side entrance to the magnificent colonial balcony overlooking the Old Windsor main thoroughfare George Street, this pub screams HISTORY! Some of the well refurbished rooms and staircases would not be out of place in a museum.

The pub has welcoming staff and country style pub food and service. There is an open fire place in winter and a shaded beer garden for summer and there is a children’s playground at the back of the pub.

They have live music Friday and Saturday night 8pm – 11pm and Sunday 1pm – 4pm.

The bistro serves up your classic pub food, steaks, burgers, chicken schnitzel, seafood and salads. They have daily specials written up on the chalk board next to the bistro. The bistro is open Mon – Thurs 11am – 3pm and 4.30pm – 8pm. Fri and Sat 11am – 9pm and Sunday 11.30am – 8pm.
