Best Tonkatsu at Kurobuta Restaurant Kagoshima Japan
Kurobuta is a famous restaurant in Kagoshima that specialises in pork dishes. In particular they specialise in shabu-shabu hot pot and tonkatsu pork cutlets. The pork they use is the best pork in Japan, the Kagoshima Kurobuta pork. Kagoshima is famous all over Japan for the most delicious pork.
I love Tonkatsu, it is my favourite Japanese food. So when I finally got to Kagoshima this was one of the first places to visit. I was very excited to try the famous Kurobuta tonkatsu and I was not disappointed. This seriously is the best Tonkatsu I have eaten in Japan (and I’ve eaten alot).
The prices at Kurobuta are not so expensive. You can get a lunch time Tonkatsu set for as little as 1100 Yen. I went for the best quality Kagoshima pork and the set meal was 1600 Yen. Not so expensive. The set meal was excellent. Your typical Tonkatsu meal with the excellent deep fried pork cutlet. The bread crumbs on the tonkatsu were so light and fluffy.
The meal comes with all the side dishes of rice, sliced cabbage, miso soup, pickles and a sweet dish for dessert.. The tonkatsu also has some spicy mustard and a slice of lemon. On the tables are jars of the delicious Tonkatsu sauce which is a Japanese version of BBQ sauce.
I loved this Tonkatsu meal so much, I came back a few days later for more tonkatsu. This time I went for their very unique black tonkatsu. They colour the breadcrumbs with charcoal (they say from Sakurajima volcano – I am not sure if this is true). The charcoal may colour it black but it doesn’t really change the taste but I would prefer the golden brown tonkatsu anyday, just looks more appearling.
Kurobuta Restaurant is fairly small. When you first walk in there is a counter dining area. Then through the back is a large room with dining tables for groups.
Kurobuta Restaurant is located with the Tenmonkan district of Kagoshima. Check out the location of Kurobuta Restaurant in Kagoshima
