Sam Phan Nam Floating Market Hua Hin Thailand
Sam Phan Nam Floating Market is located about 8 kilometers west of Hua Hin Thailand. Built specifically to attract tourists, the name floating market is a bit deceiving as this market place is nothing like the floating markets found in Bangkok.
This market place is just a bunch of stalls built on wooden platforms suspended over a large pond.
There are a number of so called ‘floating markets’ found close to Hua Hin. I visited Sam Phan Nam Floating market and probably spent 10 minutes walking past all the stalls before heading back to Hua Hin. There is nothing special for sale at this market that you cannot get in any of the night markets right in the heart of Hua Hin.
I presume this markets gets bus loads of Thai and Chinese tourists but when I visited I was the only visitor most of the time I was here. Right at the end when I was heading towards the exit I saw 2 other tourist enter these floating market.
The worst thing about this pretend floating market is that they charge foreign tourists 200 Thai Baht just the enter the market. You get nothing for this. Once inside, even if you want to go to the toilet you have to pay an extra 20 Baht for using the toilet!
Not far from these ‘floating markets’ is the Wat Huay Mongkol which does have an interesting sight of a 12 meter high Buddhist monk statue. Much more interesting than these markets.
